Tony Romo breaks records, can’t change narrative
Tony Romo is playing his best game, but a late mistake will add a chapter to his narrative.
Peyton Manning is getting all the press, but Tony Romo was having the best game of his career against the Denver Broncos. He threw for over 500 yards -- a franchise record for the Cowboys -- but fell into the same traps with a late interception that cost Dallas the game.
Romo had 506 passing yards and four touchdowns, but it will be overshadowed by an interception to Danny Trevathan to give Denver a chance with two minutes left . His 140.0 quarterback rating is the highest of the NFL week, but a Cowboys record means little if it comes in a Dallas loss.
It's a shame because Romo played a stellar game. Normally it's easy to find one receiver as the catalyst for a quarterback's success, but Romo found everybody. Eight players have caught passes, with Terrance Williams, Jason Witten and Dez Bryant being the team's biggest benefactors. Williams has 151 yard receiving, Witten has 121 yards -- both with a touchdown. The impact player has been Bryant, who has 141 yards and two touchdown receptions.
Romo will continue to get written off because of the interception and his past failings, but this season is something different. He’s seeing the field better and finishing just over .500 could be enough in a weak NFC East.
