Bengals beat Seahawks on DOINK field goal

The Bengals are 5-0 after beating the Seahawks, 27-24, thanks in large part to this DOINK.

We have not yet confirmed whether or not the kicker called bank, but they appear to have counted it regardless.

Rams punter does best Aaron Rodgers impression

OK, so maybe all that scrambling and throwing back across his body that Aaron Rodgers does isn’t that hard.

Or maybe the Rams punter has finally found his true calling. Of course, the Rams ended this drive with a missed field goal, and that might have been because they didn’t let the punter throw the ball anymore.

    Sherman says Garcon ‘doesn’t matter’

    Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

In the Vine below, it appears Garcon does yank substantially on Sherman’s long dreadlocks. No penalty was called on the play.

Despite Sherman’s claims, Garcon is one of the better receivers in the NFL recently. Last year, Garcon eclipsed 1,000 yards for the first time in his career with 1,346, good enough for eighth in the league.

Fauria’s 3 TDs pushes Lions past Browns

    Matt Sullivan

The Lions headed into halftime down three but scored 24 unanswered points in the second half to pull away and improve to 4-2.

Fauria, an undrafted rookie free agent, was as efficient as one could be, catching three touchdowns on three targets. He now has five touchdowns on just seven receptions this season. He grabbed his first on a one-yard catch from Stafford, giving the Lions a 7-0 lead.

How your team blew it this week

    Mark Zerof-USA TODAY Sports

Cause of Death: On their first five drives, first down did Chicago more harm than good; the seven first down plays the Bears ran resulted in a total of -7 yards and a turnover. Unsurprisingly, all five of those drives ended with the Bears giving the ball without even crossing their own 40 yard line. Giving the Saints less work to do on second and third down only results in scary things, like “rumors that Rob Ryan will be named head coach of the Giants.”

Cause of Death: In his career, Brady has thrown almost 1,400 fourth quarter passes. He’s completed 61.9 percent of them for nearly 10,000 yards, and he’s averaged 2.3 touchdowns for every fourth quarter interception. It is, therefore, something of a departure from form for Brady to put up this stat line in the final fifteen minutes:

    Broken records

    Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

Every Peyton Manning story has been told. Books, documentaries, interviews, hell, the media drags the guy’s family out in front of the cameras every once in awhile to recount their anecdotes, too. The man sells everything from crappy pizza to Outlaw Country, and comes off the screen somehow not having cheapened himself. Columnists gush recycled platitudes every week. What else is there to say? You can affix the “elite” label to the Broncos quarterback and not have to feel ashamed at trotting out the columnists’ favorite football chestnut.

The columns don’t change, but the numbers do. This is Manning’s 16th season in the NFL. The combination of longevity and talent mean weekly alterations to the record book. So let’s break from the hagiographies and head straight for the stacks and stacks of records that Manning has and doesn’t have.

    Texans bench Schaub against 49ers

    Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Schaub has thrown a pick-six in four straight games, which is an NFL record. There is no word whether this will be a permanent benching for Schaub or just a temporary move. The Texans are trailling the 49ers by a score of 31-3 in the fourth quarter.

Romo will continue to get written off because of the interception and his past failings, but this season is something different. He’s seeing the field better and finishing just over .500 could be enough in a weak NFC East.

    Cardinals win ugly, 22-6

    Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports

With only two offensive touchdowns combined, there weren’t many fantasy points to go around. Despite the win, Carson Palmer put up an ugly stat line, completing 19-of-28 passes for just 175 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. Cam Newton wasn’t any better, also throwing three interceptions.

No notable injuries were reported in this game.

    Broncos set scoring record

    Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

The Broncos sport one of the top rushing defenses in the league and came into Sunday averaging nearly twice as many points on offense as they allow on defense.

This could be just one of the many scoring records to be broken by Manning and the Broncos this season.

Manning breaks touchdown record through 5 games

    Ronald Martinez

At the age of 37, Manning has started a season better than any quarterback in NFL history. The Broncos are currently undefeated and have had their way for the most part with the Dallas defense. It would not be a surprise if Manning added several more scores to his total by the end of Week 5’s game.

    Chiefs beat Titans, stay undefeated

    Jim Brown-USA TODAY Sports

Things did not get off to a great start for the Titans. Damian Williams booted a Chiefs punt into the end zone, but Kansas City recovered to get the first touchdown of the day.

The Titans got on the board early in the third quarter when Chris Johnson took a shovel pass 49 yards to the house. Tennessee added a field goal, taking advantage of an Alex Smith interception to take the lead when Fitzpatrick ran it in himself from five yards out to give the Titans a 17-13 lead.

    Colts prevail over Seahawks, 34-28

    Pat Lovell-USA TODAY Sports

The Colts took a 14-12 lead in the second quarter, returning a blocked field goal for a touchdown. The Seahawks got the lead back when Wilson lobbed up a jumpball to Jermaine Kearse in the end zone and Kearse pulled it down for the touchdown. The Seahawks failed to cash in on a two-minute drill, but still went into halftime with a 19-14 lead.

The Seahawks went three and out on the ensuing drive and Indianapolis got another field goal to make it 34-28. A last-ditch effort by the Seahawks ended in an interception so Seattle drops to 4-1 on the season.

Ravens defeat Dolphins in close game

    Mike Ehrmann

Flacco threw the ball well, completing 19 of his 32 passing attempts, but he also threw a bad interception that almost cost the Ravens the game. Luckily Rice was the difference maker on Sunday, though. The Ravens running back has been very quiet for much of 2013, but showed up today when it mattered as he ran for two touchdowns and finished with 102 all-purpose yards.

Ryan Tannehill had an excellent game, and is quickly becoming a fantasy option provided he can throw more touchdowns.
