NFL injury roundup: Luke Joeckel out for the year, Michael Vick believes he could play on injured hamstring

The health of Luke Joeckel and Michael Vick are among the injury stories making the rounds following Sunday’s action in Week 5.

The Jaguars are now without both of their starting offensive tackles, as rookie Luke Joeckel will miss the rest of the season with a high-ankle fracture. The injury occurred during the first quarter of the Jaguars' loss to the Rams and just days after former left tackle Eugene Monroe was dealt to the Ravens.

Second-year player Austin Pasztor started in Joeckel's place at right tackle. Third-year tackle Cameron Bradfield is the swing tackle for the Jaguars and entered the game after Joeckel's injury. Joeckel's rookie season will end after just five games.

Here is a look at some of the other injury headlines that you may have missed on Sunday night.

Michael Vick nursing a hamstring injury

Eagles quarterback Michael Vick was forced from Philadelphia's win over the Giants on Sunday with a hamstring injury. The exciting, yet oft-injured star pulled up on a run as he went out-of-bounds in the second quarter of the game. He returned for the next series but looked stiff in the pocket and was replaced by Nick Foles. The second-year player led the Eagles to a 36-21 win in Week 5 and finished with 197 passing yards and two touchdowns in a little over two quarters of play.

While Vick missed the entire second half of the game, he believes he could have returned. Chip Kelly decided to hold him out and Vick said that he supported the decision. His status is uncertain for Week 6's matchup in Tampa Bay against the Buccaneers.

Clay Matthews injury: Packers star suffers broken thumb

Packers pass rusher Clay Matthews is a bit worse for wear after Green Bay's win over the Lions. The Pro Bowler suffered a fracture to his thumb, according to Pro Football Talk. The injury likely occurred at the end of the third quarter, when Matthews sacked Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford.

It is unclear if Matthews will miss any time with the injury. He currently has four sacks on the season and is the heart of the Packers defense. The Packers will travel to Baltimore in Week 6 to play the Ravens.

David Wilson injury: Giants RB expected to be OK, return next week

Giants running back David Wilson will return to the lineup in Week 6 after suffering a back injury during Sunday's loss to the Eagles. The second-year runner/returner was held out of the game after suffering a blow to his back in the second quarter. Veteran Brandon Jacobs handled the majority of the carries following Wilson's exit.

Wilson was inspected in the locker room by the Giants’ medical staff and the injury was not deemed serious, according to Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports 1. The young back was held out due to precautionary measures, according to the player.
