Ravens vs. Dolphins 2013: Baltimore plays ‘absolutely incredible’ defense in win

Terrell Suggs and Elvis Dumervil combined for four of six sacks for the Ravens, shedding more light on the poor offensive line of the Dolphins.

Robert Mayer-USA TODAY Sports

The Baltimore Ravens bounced back from a Week 4 loss to earn a 26-23 victory over the Miami Dolphins and improve to 3-2. The win over a quality team was an impressive one for the defending Super Bowl champions that have seen struggles from quarterback Joe Flacco to start the year.

After the game, Zachary Beard of SB Nation’s Ravens blog, Baltimore Beatdown, was complimentary of both sides of the ball:

The commitment to running the ball helped open up play-action passing opportunities for Joe Flacco who threw for a total of 264 yards, no touchdowns and lobbed up a pick-six late in the game. Despite failing to throw for a touchdown, we saw Flacco play with an increased trust in his receivers not named Torrey Smith today (namely Deonte Thompson and Tandon Doss) which helped put the Ravens in many situations to score the ball.

The defense was absolutely incredible today, contrary to the final score. The terrorizing duo of Terrell Suggs and Elvis Dumervil combined for four of the Ravens' six combined sacks. Something worth noting, after today's career performance, Terrell Suggs has broken the 90 career sacks milestones.

That impressive defensive performance by Suggs and Dumervil was yet another strong showing for a team facing the Miami offensive line. With 24 sacks allowed through five games, Ryan Tannehill has been the NFL's most-sacked quarterback and it's a serious problem, says Kevin Nogle of SB Nation's Dolphins blog, The Phinsider.

I am a big believer in letting an offensive line have time to build chemistry. Each member of an offensive line has to know what the person next to him is going to do, and they have to be able to adjust without much communication. That only comes with time working together.

But this offensive line does not seem to be coming together. Something has to change. And, all five members of the offensive line need to be considered in the retool.

Lucky for the Dolphins, they have a Week 6 bye to attempt to fix their offensive line woes. The Ravens will attempt to piece together wins when they host the Green Bay Packers.
