David Wilson injury: Giants RB not yet cleared for Week 6

David Wilson said he left Sunday’s game as a precaution, but he hasn’t been cleared to play on Thursday yet.

New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said David Wilson had tingling in his arms after suffering a neck injury on Sunday and the running back will have to undergo further evaluation before being cleared to return to the field, according to Dan Graziano of ESPN.com.

Wilson left Sunday’s game in the second quarter after taking a big hit. He returned to the sidelines briefly, but did not return to the game. After the game, Wilson tweeted that he was held out for precautionary reasons and would be back next week. That may still be the case, but Wilson will have to be cleared by the medical staff before he returns. New York plays at Chicago on Thursday and the quick turnaround won’t give Wilson much time to recover.

After a promising rookie season, Wilson was a popular breakout candidate heading into this season. He took over as the feature back, but fumble problems have limited his snaps and he’s been ineffective when he is on the field. He scored his first touchdown of the season on Sunday and has 146 yards on 44 carries this season.

New York is still without Andre Brown and released Da'Rel Scott last week, leaving Brandon Jacobs as New York's No. 1 running back if Wilson is out. Jacobs carried 11 times for 37 yards on Sunday and is averaging 2.2 yards per carry this season.
