Jets vs. Falcons 2013 final score: Nick Folk’s field goal gives New York a 30-28 win

Geno Smith and the Jets survived after a second-half rally by the Falcons.

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

For the second time this season, Geno Smith led the Jets on a game-winning drive. Trailing by a point, Smith moved New York down the field, setting up Nick Folk for a 43-yard field goal to knock off Atlanta, 30-28.

The drive came after Atlanta reeled off 14 straight points to take the lead. Smith was extremely efficient all game, finishing 16-of-20 for 199 yards and three touchdowns. He was impressive on the final drive, moving New York 55 yards in eight plays to set up the winning kick.

New York started out very well, scoring on its first three possessions. Smith completed 8-of-9 passes in the first half to go along with two touchdowns. There was a pivotal series at the end of the first half when the Jets were leading 17-7, but Atlanta drove deep into New York territory. The Falcons went for a fourth down and New York was flagged for holding. With one second remaining in the half, Atlanta went for the touchdown instead of taking the field goal. New York stuffed Jacquizz Rodgers, keeping Atlanta off the scoreboard.

Atlanta appeared to be in serious trouble late in the game before Matt Ryan led a pair of long touchdown drives. Trailing 27-14, Ryan led a 10-play, 80-yard drive to make it a one-score game. The Falcons got the ball back quickly, and Ryan drove 63 yards in 10 plays for another touchdown. The score put Atlanta in the lead, 28-27, giving Smith and the Jets the ball back with 1:54 to play. Those 114 seconds proved to be enough for Smith’s late heroics.

With the win New York improves to 3-2 on the season and Atlanta drops to 1-4.

Fantasy studs and duds

Smith had the aforementioned three touchdowns and Ryan had a big night for Atlanta as well, throwing for 319 yards and two touchdowns. Julio Jones wasn't able to get in the endzone but caught eight passes for 99 yards. Tony Gonzalez finished the game with 10 receptions for 97 yards.

Bilal Powell was off to a good start to the season, but finished with 10 carries for 28 yards and no touchdowns.

Injury report

Roddy White, who was already hampered by an ankle injury, suffered a hamstring injury and did not return. Jason Snelling left the game with a concussion.

Did they cover?

The Falcons opened as a 7-point favorite with some oddsmakers installing them as a 10-1/2-point favorite. Atlanta failed to cover either number by a wide margin.
