NFL news roundup: Justin Blackmon suspended indefinitely; Dolphins deny harassment

The Jacksonville Jaguars will be without their 2011 first-round pick for the remainder of the season, as wide receiver Justin Blackmon has been suspended indefinitely.

Scott Kane-USA TODAY Sports

A horrible season for the Jacksonville Jaguars somehow got worse on Friday when the team announced an indefinite suspension for wide receiver Justin Blackmon after a violation of the NFL's substance-abuse policy. With a previous suspension that kept him out for the first four weeks of 2013, Blackmon will miss the remainder of the season and will have to wait for reinstatement from Roger Goodell.

On Friday, Alfie Crow of SB Nation’s Jaguars blog, Big Cat Country, said he thinks Blackmon is done with the team:

Personally, I do think the Jaguars move on from him, because he’s already broken the new regimes trust, twice. If he’s kept on however, he would need to massively restructure his deal. Even if he’s released in the offseason, it would be tough to see teams flocking to sign him, because how much do you pay a player who’s already been suspended indefinitely after just 20 career games?

Blackmon, 23, returned from suspension in Week 5 and made an instant impact for the Jaguars, accumulating 29 receptions for 415 yards and a touchdown in four games.

Here’s a roundup of the other news you may have missed on Friday:

Dolphins deny harassment of Martin

Amid reports of an "abusive environment" that led to the sudden departure of offensive tackle Jonathan Martin, Dolphins players say the reported teasing and harassment wasn't anything out of the ordinary. Guard Nate Garner said the team only did "normal stuff" with Martin, although the second-year offensive tackle evidently did not see things the same way.

Revis not healthy enough for press

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been the subject of plenty of criticism during their winless start to 2013, and among the criticism has been their use of cornerback Darrelle Revis. While he hasn't been used in his traditional press coverage role that he used so well with the New York Jets, Revis said on Thursday that his health might be to blame. The four-time Pro Bowl selection suffered an ACL tear during the 2012 season before he was traded to the Buccaneers in the offseason.

Ponder to start vs. Cowboys

The Minnesota Vikings are turning the keys back over to Christian Ponder, sidelining a healthy Josh Freeman in favor of the 2011 first-round pick. Ponder returned to the starting lineup in Week 8 and provided a decent performance, completing 14-of-21 passes for 145 yards, one week after Freeman suffered a concussion in Week 7. In Freeman's first and only start with the team, he completed 20-of-53 passes for 190 yards, no touchdowns and one interception.

Broncos vs. Chiefs flexed

A Week 11 matchup between the Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs will be played in prime time, as the NFL has reportedly flexed the game into NBC's Sunday Night Football at 8:30 p.m. ET on Nov. 17. The Chiefs are the only remaining undefeated team, and the Broncos are just one game behind them in the AFC West standings, setting up a contest with huge playoff implications. Bumped out of the slot is a game between the Green Bay Packers and New York Giants, which will now be played at 4:25 p.m. ET.
