Jerry Jones admits firing Rob Ryan ‘doesn’t look good right now’

Dallas’ owner is not feeling great about the firing of Rob Ryan in the moments after being trounced in the Big Easy.

After watching his defense get the worst of a 49-17 pummeling at the hands of the New Orleans Saints on Sunday night, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said that the decision to fire defensive coordinator Rob Ryan is not looking good, per Tim McMahon of ESPN.

”We thought it was best for us to go in the direction that we are, and it doesn’t look good right now. Hopefully we can make it look good, but I have all the feelings that you have when you want to look back at a decision, and I realize when some of them work you have to have a few things go along with it.
“Candidly, we’re having some of the same things that Rob had last year. Frankly, to be fair to Rob, he lost a lot of guys on defense. We lost more this year. That’s the game, though. That’s what we play. That’s the NFL.”

Jones let Ryan walk after the 2012 season in which the Cowboys finished 8-8 and ranked 19th on defense. This season, Dallas is 5-5 through 10 games under new defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin. The defense is coming off one of the worst performances in NFL history, giving up 40 first downs to set a new league record.

Overall, the Cowboys’ defense ranks dead last, allowing 439.8 yards per game including an astounding 313 through the air. Already this year, Dallas has allowed four games of 400+ passing yards, tying the NFL record for an entire season.

The Cowboys have given up 25.8 points per game, coming in 23rd in the league.
