Sean Lee injury: Cowboys LB out 3-4 weeks

Sean Lee will miss up to a month with a hamstring injury he suffered Sunday night against the Saints.

Sean Lee will miss three to four weeks for the Dallas Cowboys after suffering a hamstring injury during Sunday night's loss to the New Orleans Saints, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports. The middle linebacker has been one of the bright spots throughout the Cowboys' adjustment to a 4-3 defensive scheme. The unit was throttled by the Saints on Sunday night, however, giving up 625 total yards and an NFL-record 40 first downs.

Dave Halprin at Cowboys blog Blogging The Boys was not optimistic when he broke down the potential impact of Lee’s absence.

The Cowboys defense was already a mess and without Lee, it’s unlikely to improve. If he has to miss a month of time then it is entirely up to the offense to keep the Cowboys afloat this season. After the effort they turned in last night in New Orleans, Cowboys fans have every right to be worried.

The Cowboys secured Lee with a six-year extension in August, and he has paid the team back handsomely this season. Through 10 games, he has 93 tackles and four interceptions. The former second-round pick fits the mold of a versatile 4-3 middle linebacker, and has made the transition to Monte Kiffin’s preferred defensive scheme much more bearable.

With Lee out, the Cowboys will likely give extended playing time to his listed backup, third-year linebacker Kyle Bosworth out of UCLA. Bosworth has just six tackles this season. He had a career-high 37 tackles last season for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
