Gary Kubiak returns to work for Texans

Gary Kubiak is back at work for the Texans, and will be on the sideline Sunday against the Raiders.

Jeremy Brevard-US PRESSWIRE

Gary Kubiak is going back to work for the Houston Texans. According to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, Kubiak is already working a half day in the office, and will be on the sideline when the Texans play the Oakland Raiders this Sunday.

Kubiak is recovering from a mini-stroke he suffered in Week 9 as the Texans were heading into the locker room at halftime against the Indianapolis Colts. The technical term for the ailment was a "transient ischemic attack" (TIA), which involves a temporary loss of blood flow to part of the brain. After suffering the attack, Kubiak underwent treatment usually given to stroke sufferers.

Texans defensive coordinator Wade Phillips is acting as the team’s interim head coach. It remains to be seen what role Kubiak will play on the sidelines. He may take over the head coaching mantle, or simply provide support nearby. Phillips will meet with media later this afternoon, and will likely clarify the situation.

The Texans are coming off a 27-24 loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. The loss dropped the team to 2-7 overall on the season.
