Seahawks vs. Falcons 2013: Depth on display for Seattle in victory

Injuries piled up for the Seahawks and Falcons, but the depth of Seattle was too much for Atlanta on Sunday.

The Seattle Seahawks thoroughly out-classed the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, dominating every aspect of the Week 10 contest on the road to earn a 33-10 victory and improve to 9-1 on the season. Alternatively, the Falcons dropped to 2-7 and have no excuses left for their 2013 struggles.

While the team has been struck with significant injuries, Dave Choate of SB Nation’s Falcons blog, The Falcoholic, says the team’s problems go beyond that:

It’s tempting to find the excuses here, because they’re ample and very real. The injuries, especially. Yet this is the third straight week where the Falcons ceased to be competitive somewhere along the way, and in this game, they weren’t competitive from the very start. I honestly don’t think I’ve seen them look worse in the Mike Smith era, and while you have to chalk a lot of that up to a very tough Seahawks team, you also have to acknowledge that this Falcons squad is a shell of what it was over the last five years. Top to bottom, they’re playing lousy football.

The Seahawks are no strangers to injuries either, as the team was without several key players on Sunday. Danny Kelly of SB Nation’s Seahawks blog, Field Gulls, said that the team’s depth was the difference:

If anyone is going to say Seattle took advantage of a injury-depleted Falcons team, I think it's worth pointing out that Seattle administered this authoritative blowout without starting Pro Bowl LT Russell Okung, All Pro C Max Unger, starting RT Breno Giacomini, starting WR Sidney Rice, and starting DE Red Bryant. Starting CB Brandon Browner left early in the game and oh, Percy Harvin is still due back very soon. Depth is key in the NFL, and Seattle's depth was fully apparent in this one.

The Seahawks will look for their 10th win of the season when they host the Minnesota Vikings in Week 11 before their Week 12 bye. The Falcons will look to snap their three-game losing streak when they travel to face the winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
