Brandon Browner injury: Seahawks CB could miss ‘quite a while’

Browner will miss extended time after suffering a groin injury on Sunday.

The Seattle Seahawks were without cornerback Brandon Browner for the first two games of 2013 and will be without him once again, as head coach Pete Carroll revealed that the veteran will miss extended time after suffering a groin injury in a Week 10 victory over the Atlanta Falcons.

Browner, 29, was an undrafted free agent in 2005 and joined the Seahawks in 2011 after playing four seasons with the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League. In his first season with the Seahawks, Browner earned a spot in the Pro Bowl and was part of a 2012 Seattle defense that allowed the fewest points in the NFL.

During his absence early in the year, the Seahawks relied on fourth-year cornerback Walter Thurmond III to start in his place and will likely do the same without Browner again. Thurmond has appeared in all 10 games for the Seahawks in 2013 and has five passes defended.

Another option, according to Danny Kelly of SB Nation's Seahawks blog, Field Gulls, is rookie cornerback Tharold Simon who has spent the season on the physically unable to perform list and is eligible to return whenever the Seahawks activate him.
