Shane Vereen eligible to return to Patriots roster

Vereen has been out since suffering a broken wrist in the season opener for the Patriots.

The New England Patriots have been without running back Shane Vereen since the season opener, but he is now eligible to return whenever he's healthy, according to Shalise Manza Young of the Boston Globe.

Vereen, 24, was placed on the injured reserve with a designation to return after suffering a wrist injury in Week 1 that required surgery to repair. After sitting out for several weeks with a cast, Vereen returned to practice two weeks ago and is now eligible to be pulled from the IR and play on Monday.

The addition of Vereen will be a welcomed one for the Patriots, not only for the running game, but also for passing. In Week 1, Vereen tallied 101 yards rushing on 14 carries, but also racked up seven receptions for 58 yards.

In his absence, the Patriots have relied on a running back by committee, of sorts. Stevan Ridley, LeGarrette Blount and Brandon Bolden have split the carries, with Ridley receiving the majority of the workload. If healthy, Vereen could be the player that takes the most carries in the offense.

The Patriots will look to come out of their bye week with a win in Week 11 when they travel to face the red-hot Carolina Panthers.
