Aaron Rodgers injury: Packers QB hopes to be back Week 12

Rodgers said he hasn’t ruled himself for this Sunday’s game against the Giants, but hinted that a more realistic goal could be Nov. 24 against the Vikings.

Having gone 0-2 since losing Aaron Rodgers to a fractured collarbone, the Green Bay Packers are desperately awaiting the day their All-Pro quarterback can return to the field. Rodgers suggested this week that that day could be Nov. 24 against the Minnesota Vikings.

On his weekly radio show on ESPN 540, Rodgers hinted that his goal was to return against the Vikings in Week 12, which would mark 20 days since a sack on the opening possession of the Packers' game against the Bears fractured his left collarbone. He went on to say he has not ruled out an earlier return.

"I would like to be back this week," Rodgers said, referring to the Packers' Week 11 game against the Giants. "Now, whether that's realistic or not remains to be seen. I would never rule myself out on a Tuesday. Now, [head coach Mike McCarthy] probably already has, I think."

McCarthy has already named Scott Tolzien, a recently promoted practice squad player who showed promise in a loss to the Eagles last week, the starter against the Giants.

“I haven’t given up hope on playing any week,” Rodgers said. “It depends on how I heal and depends on what the next x-ray looks like. Obviously, this week is probably not going to happen -- not going to happen.”

Tolzien was forced into action against the Eagles after a groin injury sidelined Seneca Wallace, who was placed on the injured reserve list earlier this week.

The Packers signed free agent Matt Flynn on Tuesday, returning him to a team where he served four seasons as Rodgers’ backup. He will be the No. 2 quarterback behind Tolzien against the Vikings.
