Week 10 NFL Players of the Week: Tavon Austin, Drew Brees honored

Tavon Austin and Drew Brees were obvious picks for Week 10 honors. Shocking no one, a member of the Broncos’ offense was also named among the NFL Players of the Week.

Tavon Austin had a breakout performance on Sunday and was named the NFC's Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 10. Against the Indianapolis Colts, Austin had a 98-yard punt return for a touchdown, and later added touchdown receptions of 81 and 57 yards. He displayed the obscene speed that made him the St. Louis Rams' top pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. Rams fans are hoping that the performance isn't a one-time deal.

Drew Brees was named the NFC's Offensive Player of the Week for his role in the New Orleans Saints' record-setting performance against the Dallas Cowboys. Brees went 34-for-41 passing for 392 yards and four touchdowns, and the Saints picked up 40 first down to set an NFL record.

Demaryius Thomas was named the AFC's Offensive Player of the Week for his three-touchdown performance against the San Diego Chargers. He showed off his versatility within the Denver Broncos' offense, catching quick hitches, deep passes and turning one screen pass into a long touchdown with his speed. Thomas finished the game with seven receptions for 108 yards.

A pair linebackers were named NFC and AFC Defensive Players of the Week, respectively. Luke Kuechly of the Carolina Panthers took home NFC honors after recording 11 tackles, one sack and a pass breakup in a win over the San Francisco 49ers. Paul Posluszny had eight tackles, a forced fumble and a recovery to help the Jacksonville Jaguars score their first win of the season, and was honored by the AFC for his efforts.

Rounding out the Week 10 awards, Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his game-winning 46-yard field goal to beat the Cincinnati Bengals in overtime. Tucker also had a 36-yarder in regulation.
