Gary Kubiak will coach Houston Texans from press box

The Texans coach will resume his play-calling duties, just from the press box instead of the sideline.

Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak will return to coach his team on Sunday against the Oakland Raiders but will oversee his team from the press box instead of the sideline, per Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

Kubiak returns just two weeks after being hospitalized and treated for a "mini-stroke" suffered on the sideline during halftime against the Indianapolis Colts on Nov. 3. The Texans feel that Kubiak is healthy enough to return to his coaching duties and will resume his normal play-calling duties, with offensive coordinator Rick Dennison moving to the sideline in place of the head coach.

Defensive coordinator Wade Phillips filled in for Kubiak as the interim coach last week against the Arizona Cardinals, but failed to lead the Texans to their first win since the second week of the season. Phillips will be holding the red challenge flag to throw onto the field for Kubiak should a challenge situation arise.

The Texans, who have lost seven straight games heading into Sunday, face the Raiders at 1 p.m. ET on CBS.
