Jay Cutler injury: Bears QB ruled out for Week 12 vs. Rams

Jay Cutler is still working to recover from a high ankle sprain he suffered in a Week 10 loss.

Rob Grabowski-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Bears earned a win without starting quarterback Jay Cutler on Sunday and will attempt to do so again in Week 12, as head coach Marc Trestman ruled out Cutler for the team's upcoming road matchup with the St. Louis Rams, according to ESPN's Mike Wright.

Cutler, 30, is dealing with a high ankle sprain that he suffered in the team's 21-19 loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 10. In his absence, the Bears have relied on backup Josh McCown, who has managed to tally five touchdowns and no interceptions in 2013, leading the team to victories in each of his two starts.

Despite McCown's success, the Bears are very clear who the starter will be when Cutler gets healthy. Both McCown and Roberto Garza told Rich Campbell of the Chicago Tribune on Monday that Cutler is the team's quarterback and that he will resume that role when healthy.

Cutler has tallied 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions in eight starts in 2013 and is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent after the 2013 season.
