Dolphins request delay of Richie Incognito hearing

Incognito is seeking reinstatement and recovery of lost wages after receiving a suspension earlier in the month.

Richie Incognito's expedited hearing is scheduled for Thursday, but the Miami Dolphins have requested a delay while they cooperate with an investigation into the bullying allegations that led to the suspension of the offensive lineman, according to Chris Mortensen of ESPN.

Incognito filed a grievance as he feels there was insignificant evidence of his detrimental conduct to support a suspension that has kept him off the field for the Dolphins. With an investigation ongoing, that included a lengthy meeting with Jonathan Martin, necessary evidence to justify the suspension may still be unavailable for use.

NFL investigator Ted Wells met with Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin and several players in Miami on Monday after meeting with Martin on Friday. No timetable has been given on the length of the investigation, but it is expected to reach beyond just the relationship of the two Dolphins offensive lineman.

Incognito is seeking reinstatement to the active roster and the recovery of lost wages. He has sat out two games for the Dolphins so far, but the suspension can last no longer than four games as per the collective bargaining agreement.
