Trent Richardson isn’t frustrated with Colts production

Richardson has struggled, but isn’t frustrated with his performance since joining the Colts.

Things haven't gone as planned for the Indianapolis Colts or running back Trent Richardson since the team traded a first-round selection for him in September. With just 2.8 yards per carry and 34 rushing yards per game, Richardson hasn't produced much at all, but the running back says he isn't frustrated.

On Monday, Richardson told Stephen Holder of the Indianapolis Star that he thinks he’s been playing well, despite what the stats say:

“I’m not frustrated at all because I think I’ve been playing good,” Richardson said. “If you turn on the film, I don’t have any missed assignments. I haven’t had any missed reads. I’ve been playing good. Stuff just hasn’t matched up like we thought it would when I’m in there. I think teams match up differently when I come in.”

Colts head coach Chuck Pagano told Holder the same thing:

“You look at Trent’s runs, for whatever reason, there’s penetration (by defenders),” Pagano said. “You feel bad. A guy gets the ball handed off to him and all of a sudden, there’s a guy sitting there for whatever reason.”

While Richardson has struggled to find any running room with the Colts, Donald Brown has had no such problem. The fifth-year back is averaging a career-best 5.9 yards per attempt and has 51 yards more than Richardson, despite 41 fewer carries.

The Colts will next travel to face the highly-ranked defense of the Arizona Cardinals that ranks as the second-best at stopping the run.
