Chicago Bears returner Devin Hester has been taking practice reps at defensive back this week. With a number of Bears injuries in the secondary, Hester believes he can contribute on the defense if needed. From the Chicago Tribune:

The veteran return man believes he could play at defensive back if needed.

We have second and third options if anything goes wrong with the guys playing now. If push comes to shove, it’s fourth quarter, 2 minutes left in the game and we need to go any kind of coverage with me back there, I’ll do it.”
The Bears drafted Hester as a cornerback in 2006, but he played only one season at the position before switching to wide receiver. He performed position drills with the defensive backs on Wednesday and Friday, the first time he’s done so all season.
The Bears have a bunch of injuries at the cornerback position. Charles Tillman is out for the regular season with a triceps injury, Isaiah Frey is listed as probable for Sunday's game against the St. Louis Rams, and safety Craig Steltz is questionable.
One of the greatest returners in NFL history, Hester has scored 18 return touchdowns in his career. This season, he’s averaging 13.3 yards per punt return and 28.2 on kickoffs.
