Jets vs. Ravens 2013 final score: Baltimore dominates defensive game, 19-3

Geno Smith played too poorly to give the Jets a chance, largely because of a choking Ravens defense.

The Week 12 matchup between the New York Jets and Baltimore Ravens promised to be a defensive battle, and it was just that. At times it was a product of excellent pressure on defense, but the game was also a representation of two floundering offenses unable to make big plays. Ultimately the Ravens leaned on the leg of their kicker to come away with the win, 19-3.

It wasn't until late in the third quarter that Joe Flacco was able to make an impact for Baltimore. He found receiver Jacoby Jones on a 66-yard touchdown pass that burnt former Ravens safety Ed Reed for the long score. It was the nail in the Jets' coffin -- a defense that surrendered four field goals gave up a big play and put the game out of reach.

Ray Rice struggled once again for Baltimore, a regular event this season. He was working against a solid run defense, but still managed just 30 yards on 16 carries. Playoff hopes are alive in Baltimore, but it's hard to envision this team being able to make a run down the stretch unless Rice can find his form.

Geno Smith's quarterback play ensured this game was impossible for the Jets to win. Rookie quarterback struggles are one thing, but Smith has started to show that his early-season successes were anomalies. Against the Ravens, he completed only nine passes and threw two interceptions to post a passer rating of 22.3.

New York is also struggling to move the ball on the ground, with Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell having near-identical, unimpressive statistics. As strong as this team can be defensively at times, it's hard to win consistently with such a one-sided gameplan.
