Aaron Rodgers injury: Packers QB making throws in practice

The Packers’ star quarterback is taking small steps towards a return, but he’s not expected to be back in time for Thanksgiving.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers participated in individual drills in Tuesday's practice. He wore his red non-contact jersey and was spotted throwing short passes.

It's an encouraging sign of progress for hopeful Packers fans, but there's still a slim chance Rodgers will be ready to play in Thursday's Thanksgiving game against the Detroit Lions. The Packers won't release an official injury report for the game until Wednesday. Rodgers hasn't played since suffering a broken collarbone in Week 9 against the Bears. If he can't go on Thursday, he will almost certainly be ready to play in Week 14 against the Atlanta Falcons.

The Packers haven't named a starter for Thursday's game yet, although the expectation is that Matt Flynn will get the start if Rodgers can't play. Scott Tolzien got the starting job for Week 12, but was benched for Flynn midway through the tie with the Minnesota Vikings. The Packers are currently 5-5-1 and desperately need Rodgers back to keep their playoff hopes alive.
