3 people hurt in car accident involving Lions practice squad players

A woman is seriously injured after rookie Lions linebacker Brandon Hepburn failed to yield at a stoplight.

Detroit Lions practice squad players Brandon Hepburn and Xavier Proctor were injured in a car crash last week.

According to police, Hepburn failed to yield at an intersection where the traffic signal was not working. He hit a 32-year-old woman in her vehicle, giving her a serious head injury. The woman was taken to a local hospital. Police said alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

The accident happened on the night of Nov. 17. Hepburn and Proctor were driving back from Pittsburgh following the Lions’ game at Heinz Field earlier that day. They were traveling about 45 mph in Proctor’s 2005 Nissan Altima, according to Hepburn. It does not appear that charges have been filed.

Hepburn, 23, was drafted in the seventh round in 2013 after four years at Florida A&M. Proctor was signed by the Lions as an undrafted free agent on July 31.

The Lions released a statement regarding the accident.

“We are aware of the accident, and we are continuing to gather additional information,” Lions spokesman Bill Keenist said in a statement today. “We have no further comment at this time other than to express that our thoughts have been and will continue to be with Ms. Chantelois.”
