Richie Incognito unlikely to re-sign with Dolphins, per report

A source close to the Dolphins would reportedly be “shocked” if Incognito is re-signed.

Richie Incognito is not expected to be re-signed by the Miami Dolphins, a source close to the team told NFL reporter Jason Cole. Incognito is currently serving out an indefinite suspension due to his alleged bullying of teammate Jonathan Martin. He is set to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2013 season.

Incognito will return to the Dolphins after the team's Week 13 matchup against the New York Jets, at which point the team may have a difficult decision to make whether to keep the guard on the roster or release him. The NFL could delay a decision by extending Incognito's suspension. League investigator Ted Wells is looking into Incognito and the Dolphins after Martin left the team amid harassment allegations.

Incognito has persistently defended himself throughout the bullying saga. He filed a grievance against the Dolphins to have his suspension lifted and back pay restored, saying that he and Martin were friends and that the racist and threatening messages he sent Martin were meant to be taken in jest.

Incognito’s grievance hearing was postponed last week so that the NFL could complete its investigation. Wells met with Incognito last Thursday and Friday, in two meetings that lasted a combined eight and a half hours. Since then, reports have emerged that Incognito and teammates physically abused Martin in the team locker room.
