Jonathan Martin claims Richie Incognito sent threatening text messages

Jonathan Martin reportedly received text messages and voicemails from Richie Incognito that were “both threatening and racially charged in nature.” The NFL will review the messages, and could punish Incognito.

Richie Incognito reportedly sent text messages and voicemails to Jonathan Martin that were "both threatening and racially charged in nature," multiple sources told Fox Sports. The content of the messages will be shared with the NFL as part of its investigation into the situation that began when Martin stormed out of the Miami Dolphins' cafeteria last week and did not return to the team.

Incognito was suspended indefinitely shortly after Martin filed a formal complaint against the Dolphins for alleged player misconduct. Martin reportedly dealt with harassment from teammates beginning in his 2012 rookie season. The final straw occurred last Monday, when teammates got up and left Martin at a table after inviting him to sit down. Martin then slammed his food tray and left the facility. He is on an indefinite leave of absence after being placed on the non-football injury list.

Martin’s teammates denied harassing Martin beyond the “normal stuff” that occurs in locker rooms. Incognito himself took to Twitter to demand apologies from various NFL reporters and news outlets for reporting that Incognito was the main subject of the NFL Players Association investigation. The NFLPA announced that it was not investigating Incognito after reports came out that it was.

Incognito is now in hot water again, and depending on the content of the messages he sent Martin, could be facing severe punishment from the league.

Update: According to Jason LaCanfora of CBS sports the messages Incognito sent Martin called the offensive tackle a “half-n*****,” as well as suggesting he would track down members of Martin’s family and harm them.
