Kyle Rudolph injury: Vikings TE has fractured foot, could miss 1 month

Kyle Rudolph will miss extended playing time for the Vikings, elevating John Carlson into the starting lineup at tight end.

Kyle Rudolph could sit out as long as a month with a foot fracture, Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier announced Monday. Jay Glazer at Fox Sports reported that the timetable is actually four to six weeks, and clarified that Rudolph did not suffer a Lisfranc injury.

Rudolph injured his foot catching a 31-yard touchdown in the third quarter against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. The tight end had to barrel his way through several defenders to cross the goal line. It's unclear exactly how he suffered the injury.

Rudolph is having a disappointing year, at least relative to his breakout 2012 season. After leading the team with nine touchdown receptions last year, he has just three through eight appearances. He does have 30 receptions for 313 yards this season, which puts him on pace to top his 2012 totals.

Fellow Notre Dame alumnus John Carlson is expected to step into the starting lineup while Rudolph is on the mend. He had a season-high four receptions for 23 yards Sunday. He has yet to better his rookie season numbers when he had 55 receptions for 627 yards and five touchdowns for the Seattle Seahawks.
