Christian Ponder injury: Vikings QB out after taking hit to shoulder

Christian Ponder is done for the night after taking a hard hit on his shoulder late in the third quarter of Thursday night’s game against the Redskins.

Brace Hemmelgarn-USA TODAY Sport

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder left Thursday night's game against Washington Redskins with an apparent shoulder injury. He is out for the game, Alex Flanagan reported on the NFL Network telecast.

Ponder took off on a scramble for the left corner of the end zone and took hard hit on the shoulder from a defender as he dove for the pylon. He fumbled the ball on the one-yard line due to the hit.

Ponder was immediately replaced by Matt Cassel, who handed the ball off to Adrian Peterson for a touchdown that gave the Vikings a 28-27 lead. Replays showed Ponder smiling on the sidelines with training staff shortly after leaving. However, not long after putting his helmet back on, he was walked into the locker room by trainers.

The Redskins held a 24-14 lead at halftime, but the Vikings have come back in the third quarter to take a one-point lead. Ponder played well, going 17-of-21 passing for 174 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.
