The NFL has appointed Ted Wells, a New York attorney with prior experience with sports-related cases, to investigate the claims of misconduct and hazing in the Dolphins locker room. Offensive guard Richie Incognito has been suspended indefinitely by the team after a profanity-laden voicemail surfaced that featured several racial slurs and threats.
However, Incognito has declared himself innocent of any real bullying, claiming that he and Martin were actually friends and the reported threats were nothing more than normal locker room banter. Martin abruptly left the team on Oct. 28 after an incident in the team’s cafeteria where his fellow offensive linemen reportedly refused to sit next to the second-year player.
Martin has also alleged he was physically attacked by another teammate and that his sister was also brought up in the hazing.
The Dolphins have not played since Martin went public. They face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this week on Monday Night Football on ESPN.
