Incognito has been accused of bullying Martin, who has left the team temporarily to get professional help. Martin reportedly suffered an emotional breakdown. Among the accusations levied at Incognito is a voicemail in which he reportedly called Martin a racial slur and threatened to kill him.
Furthermore, there were reports that the team asked Incognito to “toughen up” Martin, who was seen as “soft.” Whether or not that happened is one of the biggest questions, and if it’s answered during the interview, it will definitely be a good watch.
There are many, many more reports to reference at this point. Some have suggested that the Dolphins considered releasing Incognito for other reasons before the season, Martin says that he was physically attacked, the team reportedly told Martin to confront Incognito rather than take action before he left the team, Incognito says he feels betrayed, and to skew things even further, Incognito’s teammates have come to his defense en masse.
Given the way things have gone thus far, smart money is on clarity not being a realistic goal, even with Sunday’s interview.
