Geno Smith, Jets offense get worse against Dolphins

Geno Smith has been terrible, and play-calling isn’t helping the rookie quarterback.

The New York Jets are struggling on offense at halftime. In fact, to say they "struggled" is underselling how bad they've been by a country mile. At the break in East Rutherford, the Jets have a total of 39 yards of offense, while the Dolphins gained 265 yards and lead, 6-0.

Rookie quarterback Geno Smith was the focus entering the Week 13 matchup, and the early results haven't been good. Smith has completed 4-of-10 passes for 29 yards and an interception. As a result, Smith has posted a first half passer rating of 8.3. His numbers this season are startlingly similar to Mark Sanchez, which won't help to alleviate the fears of Jets fans moving forward.

There's no sign the problems will get better. Stephen White suggested the team needs to run the ball more, but they're not doing it. The team's running backs have combined for just five carries, with Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell going for 16 yards total. Now the team will be without Josh Cribbs in the second half, causing them to lose another potential weapon.

The saving grace for the Jets is that their defense kept the game close. However, six points could be insurmountable if the offense can’t turn around its production quickly.
