Adrian Peterson injury: Vikings RB likely out Week 15

Peterson will need to spend some time in a walking boot making a Week 15 return unlikely, according to an ESPN report.

Adrian Peterson will not need surgery to repair the sprained right foot he suffered in a Sunday loss to the Baltimore Ravens, but the Minnesota Vikings are likely to be without the star running back in Week 15 when they play host to the Philadelphia Eagles, according to a report from Ben Goessling of ESPN.

Peterson, 28, was carted off the field against the Ravens after suffering a lower leg injury. When X-ray and MRI results came back negative, Peterson reportedly expected to be ready for the team’s Week 15 game, but that now doesn’t appear to be likely.

According to Goessling, results from a CT scan on Monday showed that Peterson will need to spend some time in a walking boot.

Peterson is no stranger to injury as he drew plenty of praises for his recovery from an ACL tear he suffered at the end of the 2011 season before returning to rush for 2,097 yards in 2012, the second most all-time in a single season. However, with the Vikings at 3-9-1 and already eliminated from the postseason, there won’t be much incentive to force the five-time Pro Bowler back into the lineup.

Through 13 games in 2013, Peterson has tallied 1,221 yards rushing and 10 touchdowns, recently becoming the 28th player in NFL history to eclipse 10,000 career rushing yards.
