Sean Lee injury: Cowboys LB reportedly out vs. Packers

The Cowboys are expected to be without Sean Lee against the Aaron Rodgers-less Packers on Sunday, per reports.

USA TODAY Sports

The Dallas Cowboys will likely be without Sean Lee for Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers. Lee was held out of practice Friday due to lingering neck pain, according to ESPN's Ed Werder. Several of Lee's teammates have been informed that the linebacker will sit, Calvin Watkins of ESPN Dallas reports.

Lee’s absence comes somewhat as a shock. He participated in practice Wednesday and Thursday, albeit in a limited fashion, setting him up for an apparent return Sunday. The Cowboys’ coaches made no mention of a setback before holding him out Friday.

Fortunately for the Cowboys, the Packers won’t have Aaron Rodgers for the bout, which soothes the impact of Lee’s loss somewhat. That said, Lee has been one of the Cowboys’ best defenders this season. In 11 games played, he has racked up 99 tackles and four interceptions returned for an impressive 174 yards and a touchdown.

Sunday's game should be one of the more hotly contested matchups of the weekend. Both the Cowboys and the Packers are fighting for their playoff lives at the moment. The Cowboys are 7-6, and will likely need to beat out the 8-5 Philadelphia Eagles for the NFC East title to play in the postseason. The Packers are 6-6-1, and looking up at the 7-6 Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears in a tight NFC North race.
