Vikings place Josh Robinson on injured reserve, activate Harrison Smith

The Vikings get their second-year defender back from injury, while shutting down Josh Robinson for the season.

The Minnesota Vikings have activated defensive back Harrison Smith to the 53-man roster and placed defensive back Josh Robinson on injured reserve, ending his season.

Smith has been sidelined since Week 7 with turf toe. He was placed on the injured reserve list with a designation to return, costing him eight weeks of the season. Smith was able to avoid surgery on the toe and cleared to practice. He will make his return on Sunday against the Detroit Lions. Smith was a standout in his rookie year and will be an upgrade to the Vikings' struggling pass defense. He had two interceptions, three passes defended, 34 tackles and recovered a fumble before the injury.

Robinson suffered a fractured sternum in Week 11 and is done for the season. Before the injury, he struggled in the nickel slot role. Robinson finishes his year with 57 tackles, a forced fumble and four passes defended in 11 games.
