The San Francisco 49ers can't afford any losses in the competitive NFC, and though the Tampa Bay Buccaneers hung in for most of the game, the Niners were eventually able to pull away and make it look easy, winning 33-14.
49ers vs. Buccaneers 2013 results: Colin Kaepernick leads San Francisco to big road win
San Francisco can clinch a playoff berth if several other teams lose their Week 15 game.
The win improves San Francisco to 10-4, keeping them mathematically alive for the NFC West division, though they are two games back of the Seattle Seahawks with two games to go. The 49ers are currently slated as the second wild card and the six seed in the NFC, holding a slim lead over the Arizona Cardinals.
Greg Schiano has helped turn the Bucs’ season around a bit after an 0-8 start, but they fall to 4-10 on the season and Schiano’s job appears far from safe. The Buccaneers will instead be looking ahead to next April’s draft, but there are still two more games left in the season.
The Niners’ season could officially be extended very soon. They’ll clinch a spot if several other teams lose in Week 15.
Fantasy Studs and Duds
San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick threw for 203 yards, two touchdowns and 39 yards rushing. Vernon Davis had 79 yards and a touchdown. Frank Gore had a good day, but may have disappointed some fantasy owners with his 86 rushing yards without a score.
Bucs quarterback Mike Glennon had 179 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. If you tried to use Bobby Rainey as a sleeper player, however, you were out of luck. Rainey had just 27 yards and no touchdowns.
Injury Report
San Francisco defensive lineman Glenn Dorsey left for a short period of time with a knee injury, but returned.
Did They Cover?
