49ers vs. Buccaneers 2013: Colin Kaepernick, Frank Gore lead way to win

San Francisco earned a tough road victory, helping its standing within the NFC playoff picture.

The San Francisco 49ers defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 33-14, at Raymond James Stadium on Sunday afternoon, getting their 10th victory of the season.

Colin Kaepernick had a very solid game against Tampa Bay, throwing for 203 yards on 19-of-29 passing, a pair of touchdowns and no interceptions. On top of that, Kaepernick ran for 39 yards, controlling the game and leading San Francisco to a crucial victory.

Frank Gore rushed for 86 yards and Vernon Davis amassed 79 receiving yards, more than enough to topple the Buccaneers. Over at Niners Nation, David Fucillo wrote about Gore's impact on the franchise:

Frank Gore now has 9,856 rushing yards for his career. He needs 144 more yards over the final two weeks of the season to reach 10,000 yards. That averages out to 72 yards per game. He faces a bad Atlanta Falcons defense and a stout Arizona Cardinals defense, so there is certainly a chance he can crack 10,000 by the end of the season.

Another stat that I found interesting is that Gore has now made 42 consecutive starts. What's even crazier is that this is the top streak among active running backs. Given what we knew about Frank Gore's medical history coming out of the U, did anybody really expect him to end up at the top of a consecutive starts list? I would not have bet money on that.

As for Tampa Bay, it finds itself 4-10 and playing out the string. The big storyline here is whether Greg Schiano will return as the head coach and what will happen with Mike Glennon. Has the third-round pick out of North Carolina State shown enough to be considered the future?

The folks over at Bucs Nation would politely say no:

They may have every hope that Glennon can consistently become the quarterback he's shown flashes of being; but waiting for a quarterback to become consistent enough in their fundamentals to be The Answer just because of a few flashes? We've seen that story before. If you decide not to take out insurance on your house, you have no-one to blame but yourself if it catches fire, and you don't have a penny to show for it. If the Bucs do not get some viable insurance for their inconsistent quarterback in case he isn't able to iron out the streakiness of his game in the offseason, then they will have no-one to blame but themselves if the 2014 campaign ends in ashes.
