Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Cecil Shorts III sat out on Sunday due to a groin injury that the third-year player has already admitted will need offseason surgery, but he still hopes to return before the season is over, according to Ryan O'Halloran of the Florida Times-Union.
Cecil Shorts injury update: Jaguars WR wants to play again in 2013
Jaguars WR Cecil Shorts III hopes to play again in 2013, but seems likely to be shut down for the remainder of the year.

Shorts, 25, doesn’t seem likely to get his wish though, as the Jaguars seem to be leaning toward shutting down the receiver for the remainder of the season. Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley told O’Halloran on Monday that the team will have a discussion with Shorts before officially announcing his status for Weeks 16 and 17.
On Monday, Shorts admitted to O’Halloran that sitting out in the final two weeks is likely the best option for his long-term health.
A fourth-round selection in the 2011 NFL Draft, Shorts will likely finish as the leading receiver for the Jaguars for a second consecutive season, regardless of his status in the final two games, as he has more than 360 receiving yards than the next leading receiver.
Tight end Marcedes Lewis was the leading receiver for the Jaguars in the absence of Shorts, finishing with four receptions for 54 yards and a touchdown.
