Charles Tillman will miss rest of season, playoffs for Bears

Cornerback Charles Tillman will not return to the lineup for the Bears, although the team expects Lance Briggs to.

The Chicago Bears earned a come-from-behind victory against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday that has them in position to earn a berth in the postseason, but they will be without two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Charles Tillman for the remainder of the season -- including a potential playoff run, the team announced on Monday.

While Bears head coach Marc Trestman wouldn’t say if Tillman had surgery, he explained that Tillman wasn’t far enough along in his recovery from a torn triceps injury to come back from the short-term injured reserve.

Tillman, 32, is finishing the final year of a seven-year, $41 million deal he signed in 2007 and is scheduled to become a free agent in 2014. Lester A. Wiltfong Jr. of SB Nation’s Bears blog, Windy City Gridiron, hypothesized before the season that 2013 could be Tillman’s final NFL season.

While the Bears will not have Tillman, Trestman told reporters that he is "reasonably optimistic" the team will have linebacker Lance Briggs back for Week 16 against the Philadelphia Eagles. The seven-time Pro Bowl linebacker has been out since October after suffering a fractured shoulder.
