Dolphins won’t activate Richie Incognito this season

Richie Incognito will remain on the suspended list for the rest of the season and will not play again in 2013.

The Dolphins did not activate Richie Incognito from the suspended list on Monday and the guard will not rejoin the team this season, according to Chris Mortensen of ESPN.

Incognito’s six-game suspension concluded on Sunday, but he and the team agreed to extend his absence for the rest of the season. Incognito will be paid for the remaining two regular season games and the playoffs should Miami qualify.

The 30-year-old was originally suspended for four games without pay following bullying allegations by teammate Jonathan Martin. The NFL launched an investigation which is still ongoing. The Dolphins, Incognito and the NFL Players Association agreed to a deal which extended Incognito’s suspension by two games, but included pay for both, as well as two of the games under the original four-game suspension.

With his suspension complete, the Dolphins had to make a decision on Monday. They could have activated him to the roster, released him or worked out another deal. With the NFL investigation not yet complete, Miami chose to work out another deal. Incognito will be paid roughly $500,000 for the rest of the regular season. Playoff bonuses are considerably lower than regular season salaries, but Incognito would receive at least $20,000 if the Dolphins make the postseason.
