Geno Smith remains Jets starting quarterback

Smith was benched early on Sunday, but will stay in the starting lineup for Week 14.

New York Jets rookie quarterback Geno Smith was benched in the team's Week 13 loss to the Miami Dolphins, but will be back in the starting lineup against the Oakland Raiders in Week 14, Smith told Rich Cimini of ESPN New York.

Smith, 23, has been the starter in all 12 games this season for the Jets, but was yanked after just 10 passes on Sunday. With only four completions and an interceptions, Smith was supplanted in the lineup by Matt Simms, who didn't fare much better.

Simms completed 9-of-18 passes for 79 yards and an interception, as the Jets were held to only 177 yards of total offense in the 23-3 loss. It was the first game of the season that the Jets were held under 200 yards of total offense.

A second-round selection in the 2013 NFL Draft, Smith has eight touchdowns and an NFL-most 19 interceptions. The Jets also have veteran passer David Garrard on the active roster, although he hasn't yet had a snap with the team.
