The NFL suspended former Minnesota cornerback A.J. Jefferson for four games on Monday, according to Aaron Wilson. The suspension comes a week after he was arrested for an alleged domestic assault.

The 25-year-old Jefferson was arrested on November 25 and released by the Vikings later in the day. According to reports, Jefferson was arrested in the early morning after the alleged victim -- a 23-year-old woman who was in a relationship with Jefferson -- called police and said she was the victim of domestic assault.

NFL teams will often wait for the legal system to play out before making a roster move, but the Vikings instead chose to release Jefferson immediately. Minnesota acquired the fourth-year cornerback from Arizona last season. He appeared in 10 games for Minnesota before being released.

Jefferson is not currently on a roster and isn’t likely to generate any interest until at least after his legal situation is resolved, so the suspension isn’t likely to have much of an effect.
