Scott Wells injury: Rams center likely out for the season

The Rams will likely be without starting center Scott Wells for the rest of the season after he fractured his fibula on Sunday.

Scott Kane-USA TODAY Sports

St. Louis starting center Scott Wells is likely to miss the rest of the season after he suffered a fractured fibula on Sunday against San Francisco, according to Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

When Wells initially left the game he was listed as suffering an ankle injury, but further evaluations revealed the fractured fibula. If Wells does miss the final four regular season games, it will be the second straight season he’s been unable to finish the season healthy. He dealt with a number of knee injuries last season, limiting him to seven starts.

When healthy, Wells has been a solid player for the Rams. Staying healthy, however, has been an issue. He signed a four-year deal worth $24 million prior to the 2012 season. If he does indeed miss the rest of the regular season, Wells will have played in just 19 of 32 games since signing with the Rams.

The 33-year-old has two years remaining on his deal, but could be a candidate to restructure this offseason, especially coming off an injury.
