Penn State head coach Bill O’Brien has been rumored to be a top target for NFL teams looking for a new head coach, and at least one team has reached out to O’Brien, Ian Rapoport is reporting.

The interest appears to be mutual, as the O’Brien camp has reportedly spoken to Penn State.

Rapoport’s sources say multiple NFL teams believe he is a legitimate target to be brought in next season, and the interest appears to be mutual. O’Brien’s rep has reportedly approached Penn State about reducing his NFL buyout, Adam Schefter is reporting, after previously taking it down from $19.33 million last year to $6.48 million this season.
O'Brien, 44, was an assistant coach with the Patriots from 2007-11, helping lead the team to a Super Bowl appearance in Super Bowl XLVI as the team's offensive coordinator. He was hired by Penn State in the wake of the university's sexual abuse scandal in 2012, and has posted a 15-9 record with a 10-6 mark in Big Ten play over two seasons.
