Cowboys vs. Redskins 2013 results: Tony Romo leads late comeback in 24-23 win

The Cowboys bounced back from last week’s meltdown with a comeback win against the Redskins.

A week after throwing a pair of interceptions late in a meltdown against the Packers, Tony Romo answered his critics by leading a late comeback against the Washington Redskins to give the Cowboys a critical 24-23 win.

Trailing by six and facing a fourth-and-goal from the 10-yard line, Romo rolled out to his right and found DeMarco Murray for the game-tying score. The Cowboys had first-and-goal from inside the five, but three failed attempts by Murray to run the ball in and a big loss on third down set Dallas back to the 10-yard line and had their playoff hopes in the balance.

The win makes the Cowboys 8-7 and has them in contention for the NFC East title. They trail Philadelphia, which plays the Bears on Sunday night, by a half-game with one week remaining.

Dallas found the end zone twice in the first half as they built a 14-6 halftime lead. Murray scored on a three-yard touchdown run just two minutes into the game. After Kai Forbath connected on a pair of field goals for Washington, Dez Bryant found the end zone on a 14-yard touchdown reception to give Dallas the eight-point lead heading into the intermission.

For the second week in row, the Cowboys let a sizable halftime lead slip away. The Redskins came into the third quarter riding Alfred Morris hard, repeatedly pounding him up the middle of the injury-riddled Cowboys defense. His four-yard touchdown run with four minutes remaining in the quarter gave the Redskins their first lead of the game.

The Redskins first touchdown of the game came earlier in the third quarter when Pierre Garcon caught an eight-yard score, tying Art Monk's franchise single-season receptions record in the process. He broke the record later in the quarter with his 107th grab of the season and finished the game with 11 catches.

The Cowboys turned the ball over twice during the third quarter. Fullback Tyler Clutts fumbled to set up the first Redskins touchdown and Romo threw a pick to set up the second.

The two teams traded field goals in the fourth quarter to make the score 23-17 and set up the Cowboys’ late scoring drive.
