Tony Romo injury: Jason Garrett, Jerry Jones don’t agree on what’s wrong

Garrett says Romo has a foot injury, while Jones said it’s a strained back.

Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett and team owner Jerry Jones haven't seen eye-to-eye much lately. Now they can't even agree on what's wrong with Tony Romo, according to ESPN's Ed Werder.

Garrett said the quarterback suffered a foot injury during the Cowboys' critical 24-23 win over the Washington Redskins on Sunday. Jones stated it was a back strain.

Watching the play on which Romo was injured, it would appear that Garrett is likely closer to the truth. Romo appeared to kick himself in the heel as he stumbled during a play in the second half. He stayed in the game, but exhibited a severe limp for the next couple of plays, hopping on one foot at one point while making a handoff. He walked it off quickly, though, and helped rally the Cowboys for a late touchdown to win the game.

Though Jones publicly backed his head coach in the wake of the Cowboys' meltdown against the Packers last week, reports surfaced this week that he was prepared to fire Garrett if the team fails to make the playoffs. If that's indeed the case, Garrett took a critical step in keeping his job with the win against Washington. At 8-7, Dallas is now a half-game behind the Eagles in the NFC East. The division, and possibly Garrett's fate, will be decided in a crucial showdown between the two teams in Week 17.
