Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier is sticking with the pledge he made two weeks ago to start Matt Cassel for the remainder of 2013. Despite a horrendous performance Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals, Cassel has gotten the nod for the Vikings' season finale against the Detroit Lions, the team has announced. Christian Ponder will be his backup.
Matt Cassel named Vikings starting QB for Week 17
A poor outing against the Bengals in Week 16 won’t keep Cassel from starting the team’s season finale against Detroit.

Cassel completed just 48 percent of his passes for 114 yards and tossed three picks in the 42-14 loss to the Bengals.
The poor outing comes just a week after Cassel had a big day in a win over the Philadelphia Eagles. He threw for 382 yards and two touchdowns, prompting Frazier to name him the team's starter for the final two weeks of the season.
The Vikings have started three different quarterbacks in 2013. Ponder came into the season as the No. 1 and is 2-6-1 in his nine starts. Cassell has gone 2-3 in his five starts, while Josh Freeman lost his only start since signing as a free agent in October.
