AFC West injuries, Week 16: Broncos lose Von Miller

Denver lost a key piece on Sunday with Von Miller going down for the year.

Thomas Campbell-USA TODAY Sports

Denver is well on its way to securing the No. 1 seed in the AFC and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs, but the Broncos lost a key player for the rest of the season in the process. If the Broncos make a Super Bowl run, they will have to do it without Von Miller.

Denver:

Miller suffered a torn ACL on Sunday and will miss the rest of the season. Denver proved it could win without Miller earlier in the year, but he's still been an impact player for the Broncos. Even without posting the ridiculous numbers he has in the past, Miller is a disruptive force and will be missed. Wes Welker missed Week 16 and his status remains uncertain. He has yet to receive clearance for a concussion, but could be cleared this week.

Kansas City:

The Chiefs were once again without Justin Houston and Branden Albert in Week 16. Both continue to recover from injuries. While Kansas City won't have the benefit of a first-round bye, the Chiefs may get some rest this week. Andy Reid is considering resting the starters in Week 17.

Oakland:

Darren McFadden returned after missing two weeks due to an ankle injury, but was limited. He carried four times for 8 yards and caught a pass. The ankle injury has plagued McFadden for much of the year, but he didn't appear to re-injure it and will likely suit up for the season finale.

San Diego:

Ryan Mathews suffered an ankle injury on Sunday and was wearing a protective boot following the game. He left the game briefly, but did return. The boot could be a precaution, but head coach Mike McCoy said the team will update Mathews' status "as the week goes on." San Diego placed reserve tight end John Phillips on injured reserve.
