Russell Okung expected to play for Seahawks despite toe injury

Okung has a “sore toe,” but is expected to play in the season finale for the Seahawks.

Offensive tackle Russell Okung tore a ligament in his toe that sent him to short-term injured reserve earlier in the year, but is expected to play in the season finale for the Seattle Seahawks despite a "sore toe," head coach Pete Carroll told Curtis Crabtree of Sports Radio KJR.

Okung, 26, was a first-round selection in the 2010 NFL Draft and has been the full-time starter at left tackle in his four seasons with the team. He suffered a tore injury in Week 2 that knocked him out of the lineup until he was activated from IR in November.

Paul McQuistan struggled to replace Okung during his time as starter, giving up eight sacks and 21 quarterback hurries during his nine games in the lineup, according to Pro Football Focus. In Okung's seven starts he has given up just one sack.

The Seahawks can clinch the top seed in the NFC playoffs with a home victory over the St. Louis Rams in Week 17.
