Shane Vereen injury: Patriots RB is back at practice after groin issue

Vereen was back on the practice field on Tuesday, which bodes well for a potential return to the lineup in Week 17.

Running back Shane Vereen had just one carry in Week 16 before a groin injury ended his day against the Baltimore Ravens, but he was back on the practice field on Tuesday, according to Field Yates of ESPN Boston, which bodes well for a Week 17 return to the New England Patriots lineup.

Vereen, 24, previously missed more than two months after a wrist injury required surgery and sent the running back to the short-term injured reserve. He provided a boost to the New England offense in his return, racking up 315 rushing yards on just 33 carries in his first four games back.

With Vereen at practice on Tuesday, he would appear to be on his way to remain in the lineup for an important game against the Buffalo Bills that could earn the Patriots a bye in the first round of the postseason.

A second-round selection in the 2011 NFL Draft, Vereen has been a productive back when healthy, but that hasn't been often. Through three seasons, he has 119 regular season carries and 11 more in the postseason.
