Sen’Derrick Marks, Jaguars agree on new $22 million deal

The defensive tackle’s improvement this season has earned him a big payday in Jacksonville.

Sen'Derrick Marks's bounce-back season has payed off in a big way.

The defensive tackle has agreed to a new four-year, $22 million contract that will keep him with the Jacksonville Jaguars through 2017, league sources have told NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport.

Marks signed a one-year, $1.5 million contract with the Jags this past offseason. Coming off four mediocre seasons with the Titans, Jacksonville wanted him to prove he was deserving of a long-term contract, and apparently he's done so. The fifth-year pro has posted four sacks, eight pass breakups, two forced fumbles and 29 tackles in 2013. Pro Football Focus rates him as the 29th best defensive tackle in the league this season.

Marks joined the Titans as a second-round pick out of Auburn in 2009, but failed to make much of an impact in Tennessee, where he had just three sacks in four seasons.

“My improvement this year is a bit of everything,” Marks told The Florida Times-Union earlier this week. “The scheme is great. The guys around me allow me to make more plays because they push the pocket and make the quarterback move. I know exactly what the coaches want done. I do what I’m supposed to do.”
