Jets vs. Dolphins 2013 final score: New York ends Miami’s playoff hopes with 20-7 win

The Dolphins dropped their second game in a row and will not be going to the playoffs this season.

The New York Jets finished the season on a high note, spoiling the Miami Dolphins' playoff hopes with a 20-7 win to go 8-8 on the year. The Dolphins needed a win and a loss by the Ravens to clinch the final wild card spot. They got help from the Ravens, but couldn't take business on their own end and are staying home in January again.

After a quiet first quarter, Miami got on the scoreboard first with an impressive pass from Ryan Tannehill. Facing down an all-out blitz, Tannehill got the ball out in time to Mike Wallace for a 5-yard touchdown.

Things turned around for the Jets late in the first half. Geno Smith drove the Jets down to the goal line and tied the game with a large man touchdown by defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson. New York took the lead with a two-minute drill by Smith, capped off with Smith running it into the endzone himself. The Jets went into halftime leading, 14-7, putting Miami's playoff hopes on the brink.

Neither team was able to do much in the second half. The Jets had a chance to take a 10-point lead, but Nick Folk had a rare missed field goal. Folk did make another attempt late in the fourth quarter, giving the Jets a two-possession lead. Tannehill tried to get his team back in it, but a tipped ball turned into an interception by Ed Reed. Folk added another field goal to put the game out of reach, ending a disappointing season in South Beach.

Fantasy studs and duds

Tannehill ended the season on a sour note, completing just 20-of-40 passes for 204 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. Chris Ivory also disappointed, rushing just five times for 19 yards as Bilal Powell got the majority of snaps.

Injury report

Brian Hartline suffered a knee injury and was questionable to return.

What’s next?

The Jets’ spoiler win is probably enough to save Rex Ryan’s job, although there will be more questions about Joe Philbin’s security after the Dolphins choked away the final two games.
